He left behind five diaries that span 1953 to 1963, a period when he was divorced, penniless, living in Snowdonia and trying to pen the great novel. When Saul finally read them, he discovered a trove of extraordinary writing, uncomfortable truths and clues his father may have been involved in a truly terrible crime.
