We first meet Melanie as a 10-year old with her first ever love Jake Perry played by Josh Lucas. We meet them in the fictional town of Pidgeon Creek Alabama, after a quick meeting we jump forward in time to present day where Melanie is now a famous fashion designer, she is dating New York political socialite Andrew played by Patrick Dempsey. Andrew’s mother Kate is actually the mayor of New York and she is grooming Andrew to be a politician, played by Candice Bergen.
