Description
Here's the first of a few World Thinking Day episodes!
WTD 2020 is coming up on February 22! This year's theme is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This is NOT the episode where we cover activities and badge requirements... that's coming up for WTD, Global Action, and the WAGGGS award over the next couple of weeks.
Today's episode topic is a bit more controversial. Was your council or service unit annual World Thinking Day event (the world fair style one) CANCELED?
There's two main reasons why:
1) This is not actually relevant to the WTD award or the Global Action award. It's also not actually the point of the WTD holiday. Really much at all.
2) Cultural Appropriation, especially in the year of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is present every. single. year.
Of course no one sets out to participate in a Girl Scout event in a harmful, offensive, or hurtful way.
So if you are participating, how can you do it in a way that is helpful, informative, educational, and truly in the spirit of the World Thinking Day holiday?
