In this Film Courage video interview, Publisher, Author, Speaker, Podcast Host, and Television Personality Anna David explains how she wrote the book Party Girl to share her joyful recovery journey after four years of sobriety. She wanted to challenge the negative stigma around recovery and show that it's a new beginning, not the end of life. She wrote the book quickly, learning as she went, and it was eventually published in 2007 by HarperCollins. The book sparked a bidding war for movie rights, but despite several attempts, the movie was never made explaining how Hollywood often buys rights but doesn't follow through. Anna emphasizes that success as an author doesn't necessarily come from book sales but from the opportunities, credibility, and business it can bring. Self-publishing has changed the game, but it's crucial to focus on more than just book sales.
Anna David is the New York Times bestselling author of two novels and six non-fiction books. She has appeared repeatedly on Today, The Talk, Good Morning America and had a running segment on G4’s Attack of the Show that she co-hosted with Olivia Munn for three years. Her company, Legacy Launch Pad, writes and publishes books for thought leaders and her podcast has featured interviews with authors such as Robert Greene and Chris Voss. Her first book, Party Girl, is in development as a film tentatively scheduled to be shot in 2023.

Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - http://amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post https://amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - https://amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - http://amzn.to/2u5UnHv
