In this episode, Mr Folakunmi Pinheiro, Doctoral Candidate, University of Cambridge discusses with Aditya Trivedi and Subhi Pastor about the African Free Trade Area's Competition Protocol. They discuss the provisions of the Protocol; aims and objectives; new institutional framework and impact on African economy. They comment on the missed opportunities of Africa in the absence of such a Protocol and also discuss the role of national and regional competition agencies. Further, they discuss the impact of the Protocol on Bigtech's anti-competitive practices in Africa; gatekeeper provisions in the Protocol and regulation of online platforms. Lastly, they conclude that this Protocol will significantly enhance the seat of Africa at the world table during antitrust negotiations.
