We learned in July that NCAA Tournament expansion was “not imminent”. However, in the weeks that followed we saw another rash of conference realignment that completely altered the shape of college basketball including the probable destruction of a prominent conference – the Pac 12. With that in mind, and with the remaining four Power 5 conferences growing bigger than ever and maybe seeking out their own way of doing things – is NCAA Tournament expansion now necessary in order to keep them at the table, while still having chairs for mid- and low-majors?
