The Los Angeles Angels essentially threw in the towel on the 2023 season on Tuesday, after it was announced that players like Matt Moore, Hunter Renfroe, Randal Grichuk, and Lucas Giolito were placed on waivers. What essentially amounts to a salary dump comes less than a month after the Angels went "all in," and the team's poor performance in August all but reduced their playoff hopes to 0%. It's a very Arte Moreno move, and while there is definitely nuance to the decision that does help put the Angels in a better place down the road, it certainly didn't inspire hope in fans at all.
