Description

In the fall of 1962, Southern California high school students Jim Fuller and Pat Connolly called friend and guitarist Bob Berryhill for a practice session at Berryhill's house. The trio practiced for about four hours and met drummer Ron Wilson at a high school dance later that evening, whereupon the band was born. But in this episode, we start before that. In the studio with us today is Bob Berryhill. We go back to the time when guitarist Bob was a 13 year old kid, learning how to surf in Hawaii. It was there he learned how to play the Ukulele. When he returned to the mainland, he sought out a ukulele teacher, but instead found a guitar instructor in the local music store. Shortly after the four teenagers put the band together playing teen sock hops and school dances, they soon headed off to the Recording Studio, located which in those days was called Cucamonga, CA (now we’d call it Rancho Cucamonga). While in the studio to record “Surfer Joe”, they were informed that they needed a “B” side for their 45 record. Not having one in mind, they instead sat down to write something, and within 10 minutes had recorded what went on to become top selling record called “Wipeout”. www.thesurfaris.com © 2023 Lotta Dogs Productions LLC Showrunner and Executive Producer Emeritus: Tom Sabella Producer and Host (the guy who has a face for podcasting): Bob Bender Management Representation: Chuck Thompson for Thompson Entertainment Group, LLC Co-Producer - Audio/Video Editor (the man behind the curtain): Mark Sabella Director of Video and Continuity (the brains of the entire operation): Deborah Halle Marketing and Social Media (all knowing): Sarah Fleshner for 362 Entertainment All Around Problem Solver (and Mental Health Therapist for us): Connie Ribas Recorded inside what could be an old beat up Airstream Trailer located somewhere on what’s left of Music Row in Nashville TN (Man we sure do miss Noshville, and the Longhorn Steakhouse) Mixed and Mastered at Music Dog Studios in Nashville, TN Editing and Post at Midnight Express Studio located in Olian, NY Production Sound Design: Keith Stark Voice Over and Promo: Lisa Fuson Special Thanks to the creator and founder of the podcast, Tom Sabella, along with Traci Snow for producing and hosting over 100 episodes of the original "Business Side of Music" podcast and trusting us to carry on their legacy.
