Episode 157 "Love Gun": This week Tom & Zeus open their 4th season by reviewing the 1977 classic KISS album, Love Gun! This was KISS' 6th studio album and maybe the peak of their career. KISS was just named the most popular band in America in a Gallup Poll, beating out The Eagles, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. The album was shipped platinum and was KISS' first album to reach the top 5 on Billboard 200, reaching number 4. The legendary album cover was painted by Ken Kelly who had painted the album cover for Destroyer. There was also the infamous cardboard cutout LOVE GUN included in the packaging. The band continued their winning formula with Eddie Kramer, who produced this album. KISS also received co-producer credit for the first time. This platinum album was the first album to feature all 4 members of the band handle lead vocal duties, when Ace Frehley sang his signature song, Shock Me. This is the 18th KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Produced by future KISS producer, Vini Poncia, this was the most maligned and non-KISS album of the four solo albums. Peter was bold and chose to do an album that he wanted to do and went back to his roots and released an album filled with old school rock, soul and R&B flavored songs, along with a few ballads as well. The album also featured the first disco flavored song by KISS. Many of the songs penned by Peter and his writing partner, Stan Penridge were songs from Peter's older band Lips. A couple were written by fifth member of KISS, Sean Delaney and another was classic rock and roll cover song. Episode 175 "Crazy Nights": This week Tom & Zeus review the 14th studio album from KISS, the 1987 keyboard heavy, "Crazy Nights." The album went platinum and was the highest charting KISS album in the 1980's landing at number 18 on the US Billboard charts. This is the 2nd album featuring the lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick. Although Kiss was not as popular as they were in the 1970's, this new non-makeup version was keeping pace with current hard rock trends. Crazy Nights had two of three singles chart and the three videos for the singles all were on heavy rotation on MTV. The album has received a lot of negative feedback from the KISS Army due to the abundance of keyboards and synthesizers. KISS brought in the highly sought Ron Nevison to produce the album. The band hoped Nevison's recent success would translate to KISS. Many of KISS' favorite outside songwriters returned as well, like Desmond Child, Diane Warren, Mitch Weissman and SIOL favorite, Adam by Shout It Out Loudcast
