Description

This week’s Urban Valor episode features Navy veteran, Karla Lees. Karla grew up in San Dimas, CA cheerleading and was interested in fashion and design. She enlisted in the Navy at 16 years old as a machinist. Karla cried when she found out she had to cut her hair before going to Bootcamp and was surprised when they cut it even shorter upon arriving at Bootcamp. The gate guards didn’t believe she was in the military when she showed up to her new unit in high heels and hot pink luggage. Karla was the only female machinist in her division. She talks about ship life, visiting different ports, and transitioning out of the Navy after thinking she was going to make it a  career. We're so thankful that Karla sat down with Urban Valor's Josh Gutierrez and shared her story about boot camp as a female, a navy machinist/military machinist, and a female veteran in the fun and enjoyable interview! Comment your support or ask any questions! We are even Karla may answer! We'll try to respond asap. And PLEASE Subscribe so you never miss an episode of Urban Valor, we put out new episodes every week!
