Description

"Please, God, don't let me fall in love and want to do disgusting things." Happy Libra Season! We’re discussing the feel-good 1990’s film Mermaids, which stars Cher as a single mom to a teen Winona Ryder and lil’ Christina Ricci in early 1960s New England. Costumes were by the incredible Merit Allen who also did Eyes Wide Shut, La Vie En Rose, and The Witches, and who was also  a fashion journalist and editor at British Vogue and icon of the Swinging Sixties era. Ryder’s Catholicism-obsessed character wears prudish Peter Pan collared shirts with knee-length skirts, while Cher is a brunette Peggy Bundy in capri pants, cha cha heels, polkadot dresses, and, of course, an iconic mermaid costume. We also talk about finger foods and have an impromptu segment about "Famous Slaps." Tune in now and dance around the kitchen with us!
