Ype de Bruin was a key figure in the Dutch community in Melbourne and Victoria; he was one of the founders of the Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, president of the Dutch Association in Victoria for many years and the first chairman of DutchCare. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was honored with both a Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau (1988) and an Order of Australia Medal (1998). On June 13, Ype passed away in Queensland, at the age of 89. We reminisce with Michael Gijsberts, who knew him for over 40 years and worked closely with him for a long time. - Ype de Bruin was jarenlang een sleutelfiguur binnen de Nederlandse community in Melbourne en Victoria. Zo was hij een van de oprichters van het Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, jarenlang voorzitter van de Nederlandse Associatie in Victoria en was hij de eerste voorzitter van DutchCare. Zijn inzet bleef niet onopgemerkt want hij werd geëerd met zowel een Nederlandse Ridderorde (1988) als een Order of Australia Medal (1998). Op 13 juni is Ype in Queensland op 89-jarige leeftijd overleden. Samen met Michael Gijsberts, die hem ruim 40 jaar kende en lang en nauw met hem samenwerkte, halen we herinneringen op.
