Description

This week I vented to Catherine about my thoughts on a modern phenomenon I've decided to call "Toxic Relatability".  In an era dominated by online (omni)presence, we've witnessed a shift from aspirational girlbosses to the emergence of self-proclaimed relatable advice-givers. While this change initially seemed refreshing and beneficial, I’m now finding that I've never felt so judged. From the ever-looming fear of "the ick" and our incessant pursuit of spotting "red flags" to the rampant overuse and misuse of terms like ‘gaslighting’ and ‘boundaries’, we find ourselves adrift in a sea of misguided counsel and these one-size-fits-all rules. How do we know whose advice to listen to and when does advice turn toxic?I also shared the common mistake we all unwittingly make when we get into a relationship, the art of “looking ugly”, the truth about snooping in your significant other’s phone, my theory about sad girls, and the five psychological tricks I’m obsessed with. Executive Producers Jade Iovine + Catherine LawAudio Engineer Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. Tell Me About It is the podcast manifestation of all the “off-the-record” conversations we’ve had with other women about things we’re taught to stay silent about -- from stumbling through our twenties, rejections, heartbreaks, fertility struggles, mental health challenges, mistakes, and the cringey shame spirals that keep us up at night. Host Jade Iovine and her guests challenge the idea of social media perfected lives and get very real about all the less-than-perfect and inevitable shitty moments we all go through. Tell Me About It is here to remind us that we’re not alone… and that the women we constantly compare ourselves to ALSO have lives that are far from perfect.
