Description

www.TinyClimate.com In Tiny Climate Challenge Episode 8 our Guest Challenger “Tiny Mayela” Gillan talks about how she reduced her carbon footprint by exploring alternative modes of transportation after she was forced to park her car for a week.  Guest Challenger Mayela Gillan is currently getting her Masters Degree in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. She also works as a researcher with the State of California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and the Center for Environmental Research and Children’s Health (CERCH). Her research is focused on artificial food dye ingestion and exposure assessments involving children, pregnant women, and women of children bearing age in the United States.  In August 2018, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Arizona. During her undergraduate studies, she gained valuable professional experience as an environmental consultant, worked on a research project to monitor air quality in occupational settings and also published a paper called, “Shimá sání - Adobe Oven Resource Guide”. Mayela identifies as a Chicanx woman and is proud to be a third-generation college graduate and a Climate Reality Leader. Her favorite things to do include dancing Baile Folklorico, attending public health seminars, and learning more about environmental hazards that impact disadvantaged communities. She plans to work with disadvantaged communities to mitigate hazardous exposures, bring to light the social and environmental injustices which occur, and advocate for better health outcomes in these communities of concern.  Links mentioned Google Maps App Contact Mayela Manasjan TinyClimate.com
