Today I want to talk about the term “Sabbath”. So, where does it come from? Back in ancient Biblical culture, God gave Israel 1 day in 7 to abstain from work, and devote the day to Him. Today, it’s known as “Sunday” or “The Lord’s Day” or “Church day”. The law was fulfilled by Jesus, so we don’t follow its rules like they used to, but is the Sabbath still something we follow today? In the New Testament, the Sabbath is still mentioned in multiple places, (Hebrews 4 in particular).
This sermon by Tim Keller REALLY helped me. I’ll link it, and I’d go listen to it. A lot of this is probably going to be influenced by that sermon…but let’s get into it!
