Description

#69: We're back with another edition of How I Got Started – the segment where L.A.'s movers and shakers join us to demystify exactly how they got to where they are in their field. This time, Brian De Los Santos is sitting down with a legit changemaker: Yolanda Davis-Overstreet. She's a mobility justice strategist responsible for getting crosswalks and bike lanes installed in her neighborhood of West Adams, and putting a big spotlight on road safety in L.A. – one the deadliest cities in the nation for pedestrians and cyclists.
She's also directed a new documentary, Biking While Black. It screened at the Pan African Film Festival this month and is an official selection of the Black Film Festival of New Orleans and the Seattle Black Film Festival, both taking place this spring. To learn more about Biking While Black, check out the film's website here: https://www.bikingwhileblack.com/

How to L.A. aims to drop a little knowledge about ALL the things that affect the people of Los Angeles, whether that’s something that makes our city great (tacos!) or something that we need to work on, like the alarming number of traffic collisions. We serve the curious Angeleno who wants to better connect with our city, discover the new, navigate the confusing and even drive some change along the way.  Support for this podcast is made possible by Gordon and Dona Crawford, who believe that quality journalism makes Los Angeles a better place to live. This program is made possible in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private corporation funded by the American people.
