Description

Hundreds of thousands of young people in this country live in poverty or are homeless. Many thousands more face uncertain futures, and even abuse, while navigating (or languishing in) the foster care system. In A Place Called Home, author and child welfare advocate David Ambroz chronicles his life growing up homeless in New York City. He tells Gloria about his experience in foster care, the work he’s done to make the system safer for LGBTQ+ youth, and what action is still needed to begin solving the intersecting mental health, homelessness, and child poverty crises.

Not only is no one is coming to save us, but we’re now in the fight of our lives. America has become an even more inhospitable place to conceive, have, and raise a child. Access to health care and related rights are shrinking, while efforts to advance gender equity, including infrastructure for child care, stall out. Every Thursday, veteran reporter Gloria Riviera talks to people on the front lines who are pushing society forward — from reproductive justice to child care — and shows you how to be a part of the movement to make change happen. No one is coming to save us, so let’s save ourselves. Presented by Neighborhood Villages.
