The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 8th and final study session on Gavin de Becker's The Gift of Fear. This bestselling text is celebrated by Oprah Winfrey and has spawned a series of books and lectures produced by de Becker, a White man. Although the text does not explicitly mention Racism at any point, it routinely directs attention towards White Supremacy with ceaseless references to OJ Simpson, remarks about Al Sharpton and de Becker's dislike of "political correctness." Last week's session focused on political assassinations and celebrity stalkers. de Becker mentions the attempted murder of former presidential candidate and governor of Alabama George Wallace - a proud White Supremacist and notorious villain during the 1960's Civil Rights effort. He fails to mention any of the numerous black people who were assassinated attempting to address White Supremacy.
