Achan broke the covenant that God had with the Israelites, and he was punished to the full extent of the Law. The Cross shows us both how serious God is about sin, and also how much He loves us to deliver us from sin. God poured out all his wrath for all sin on Jesus, His Son, our Savior. Jesus took our sins and died, the just punishment for sin.  That’s how serious God is about sin.
