Having found success on the world stage—gracing the Victoria’s Secret runway and countless high-fashion campaigns—Shaik has been at the forefront of shifting the paradigm when it comes to lack of representation in the fashion and beauty industry. Today, she has a lot to look forward to: a new baby (due any day now!) and a beauty brand expected on shelves next year. While it’s easy to imagine her life as idyllic, her success is not without its hurdles. 
Here, the 31-year-old model reveals how she was bullied as a girl because of her looks and mixed heritage, the challenges of working as a professional model before agents and designers embraced diversity and how she has built resilience over the years.
