Married for almost five decades, a teacher for almost four, he has several grown children and a clutch of grandchildren. A former atheist who once denied not only the reality of God but also the reality of good and evil, he is a convert to Catholicism who worships and teaches adult confirmation classes at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Austin, Texas.
