Description

This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring Kansas Wesleyan’s new head coach, and the 2021 AFCA’s NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year, Coach Matt Myers. Coach Myers talks about the new transition to head coach, the pressures of maintaining a successful program as an alum, and the impact the AFCA has had on his journey. Matt Myers was named the head coach of the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in December of 2021 after six years with the program. Coach Myers joined the Coyotes coaching staff in 2016 following a four-season career playing at Kansas Wesleyan; he is also the first alumni head coach since 1936. During Coach Myers time at Kansas Wesleyan, the Coyotes have won three KCAC Championships and hold a 61-11 record. Coach Myers has always dreamed of being Kansas Wesleyan's head coach and looks forward to continuing the program's history of excellence. 2:15 Advice for you as a new coach 3:38 Keeping the program consistently successful 4:30 Moving away from the coordinator role 6:20 How to build trust with staff 9:00 Coaching as an alum 13:20 Pressure from external sources 14:30 Takeaways from spring ball 17:55 AFCA 2021 NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year 19:35 AFCA convention experience 21:45 Socials/Conclusion Twitter: @Myers_KWU
