Description
Episode 10 of the Border Wars Podcast talks to SFS Senior Fellow David Grantham, PhD, who served as a Special Agent for the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI). A relatively secretive spy agency for the Air Force and Space Force, David takes us behind the scenes on how to join OSI and what that agency does in garrison and on the battlefield in Afghanistan and in one of the most infamous prisons in Iraq.
From recruiting foreign sources in Kuwait to managing the force protection of Camp Bucca in southern Iraq, we delve into how OSI carries out its counterintelligence mission against Al Qaeda in Iraq and against Iran. Then to Latin America to fight drug cartels from Venezuela to Mexico up to the U.S. southern border, David explains why Texas is a target of adversarial nation-states and associated Mexican cartels. This is the topic of our most recent issue in the Transregional Threats Journal (link below).
David's book "Consequences: An Intelligence Officer's War" tells the story of "an ordinary man with an extraordinary story" and we tell his story on this episode of the Border Wars podcast.
