Description

UPWARD Dogology episodes contain a Learning Journey and a SnipPet. The Learning Journey describes the process, challenges and successes with a client and their dog. The SnipPet Pieces are tidbits of info, tips, “what’s trending”, opinions and advice from experts on anything and everything dog related. In this Learning Journey, Billie introduces us to Roxanne and her dog, Dezi. Dezi got a bit of a bum rap in his early life and is nervous of people, causing him to bite. Although the bite incidences appear unpredictable, Roxanne learns how to read Dezi and prevent bites by changing his perception of his need to bite. The SnipPet Piece describes one of many times Billie learns of, and tries to make sense of, a common technique recommended to address unpredictable behaviour.  Are you frustrated by commonly recommended techniques?  Learn why it is NOT YOUR FAULT.Season 5 is a "Dogology" (kinda like a mixology) of tips, Q and A's, interviews, discussions and a deeper look into the 3 components of UPWARD Dogology all with the goal of increasing awareness and making the world a better place for all animals, including humans! Season 4 is interviews with people and organizations that help animals. Increase your awareness and be part of the solution by listening, sharing, and reviewing.  Season 3 dives deep into trending methods. Are they right for you and your dog? Season 2 shares the learning journey of my clients with dogs with different issues and backgrounds; always interesting and a great way to feel a connections with others who have similar experiences.  Season 1 starts by sharing my unique learning journey and then dives into why positive reinforcement training (and practices under that "umbrellas") are often limiting, ineffective and/or counter-productive with dogs over 6 months. It finishes with an introduction into cognitive behavioural therapy and UPWARD Dogology.Upward Dogology   website https://www.upwarddogology.com/UPWARD Dogology (@upwarddogology) • Instagram photos and videosUpward Dogology | FacebookBillie Groom (facebook.com)Billie Groom | LinkedIn‎HerCanvas: How to Help Your Dog and Family Adjust to Living With COVID19 on Apple Podcasts     My interview on Her Canvas, a podcast hosted by Jedidahhttps://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/meet-billie-groom-from-upward-dogology-located-in-saskatchewan/id1527383134?i=1000496584692  My interview on Bucks County Bytes with Martha. The link to my guest appearance on The Entrepreneur Way:http://theentrepreneurway.com/podcast/1595-being-careful-on-turning-a-hobby-or-a-favourite-activity-into-a-business-with-billie-groom-founder-and-owner-of-upward-methodology/#commentsThanks to the Jeff Mertick Band for the music! The Jeff Mertick Band - YouTubeEpisode is LivePublished: May. 19, 2020 @ 2PM

Welcome! This podcast is a thought provoking journey into the world of dog rescue, science, rehabilitation, and canine behavior. Host, Billie Groom, is an expert in Canine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and award winning author. She was featured in Psychology Today Magazine by Marc Bekoff, and appears on many shows, including LA Tribune, IGNITE Your Essence, DVM 360, The Animal Innovations Show, and is a featured speaker at the Animal Behavior Society Conference 2022. Billie openly shares her experiences and knowledge, in a straight-forward and often humorous manner, acquired over three decades working with dogs, rescuers, fosters, adopters, and industry experts. She describes how dogs think, learn, process, and absorb our urban world, compared to that of puppies, and explains, without judgement, the inherent limitations of conventional training methods. Billie, then, introduces us to Canine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CCBT), a scientifically proven methodology designed to recognize pre-established thought patterns, respect emotions, and harness cognitive abilities. NOTE: this podcast does not provide specific training advice. As a successful behaviorist for over 3 decades, and an expert in CCBT, Billie shares with us the learning journeys of a few of her clients. If you feel defeated, or as though nothing is working, you are not alone! Billie has helped hundreds of people every year who felt that surrender or euthanasia was their only option. You can do this, too! Billie chats with the most interesting people who help animals. From volunteers, to rescuers, to veterinarians, and authors, you will be amazed by the work these wonderful people do everyday! Mixed in with all this enlightening information, Billie dives deep into scientific studies on dog behavior, and dissects the world of dog rescue and training. Are the experts providing you with all the information? Or are you being saturated with gimmicks and ineffective advice? This podcast aims to change societal views on rescued dogs and our ability to effectively integrate dogs with checkered pasts into our world. By incorporating Canine CBT into mainstream dog rearing, we can reclaim the lost human-animal bond, and change the world for dogs in need.ABOUT Billie: Billie is a member of the Dog Writers Association of America, Comparative Cognition Society, and Animal Behavior Society. She is the author of an award winning book on rescued dogs, and published in Ruff Drafts Magazine, Cold Noses News, and Dog Desk Radio. She is a guest on multiple podcasts, tv and radio shows, and is a graduate of Western Ont. University. Her business won the Global Business Awards 2021. She hails from Ontario, Canada and lives in Saskatchewan, Canada with her rescued dogs and a cat who adopted her.
