Description

In this episode, we are joined by our friends Omar Popal and Umar Durrani. They are both first-year medical students that were raised in immigrant households. We talk about how our career aspirations were shaped by our upbringings and how to handle school as a first-generation immigrant. We also compare and contrast our experiences as daughters and sons in an Islamic household.
✨Guest spotlight: Omar and Umar
Omar Popal is a 23 year old Afghan American and the oldest of two brothers. He is currently a first-year medical student at CHSU-COM in Fresno California (where it is summer 80% of the year?). He is passionate about mentoring and teaching as well as being an advocate for silenced voices in the Muslim community. He hopes you all find the podcast informational and never hesitate to reach out to him if you have any questions!
Umar Durrani is a 24-year-old Pakistani American. He is currently a first-year medical student at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. His passions include working with underserved populations, healthcare policy, and global health. He hopes you enjoy the podcast and find it helpful!
