Description
BASEBALL IS BACK! After 99 days of a grueling MLB lockout, the sport we love is officially back. Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association finally agreed to a deal on Thursday afternoon, ending the lockout and preserving a full 162-game season.
Ben details the final agreement, including the fact that it wasn't unanimously approved by players. In fact, the executive subcommittee voted 8-0 against it, but player-union reps voted overwhelmingly for accepting MLB's offer. Highlights of the deal include a 9.5% raise to the first CBT threshold, a new $50 million pre-arbitration bonus pool, a 22.7% raise to the league minimum salary, a new draft lottery, anti-service time manipulation measures, and more.
Now that an agreement is in place, the league is set to resume normal activities. Free agency is set to resume tonight after the owners officially vote to ratify the deal. Ben discusses the possible moves for the San Francisco Giants, including where things stand with Seiya Suzuki, Kris Bryant, Nick Castellanos, and others. Mandatory report date for Spring Training will be on Sunday, and Opening Day will be on April 7.
