Description

The non-tender deadline came and went and the only player the Cincinnati Reds non-tendered, Brandon Bailey, they turned around and signed to a minor league deal. There are also rumors that persist that Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, or Tyler Mahle may be headed somewhere else and why Michael Lorenzen wasn't returning to Cincinnati. Also, with the MLB lockout forthcoming, we get you set to understand why this is about to happen.
The Cincinnati Reds non-tendered Brandon Bailey and no one else on Tuesday before the deadline. They then turned around and signed Bailey to a minor-league deal with invite to Spring Training. The reason the Reds stayed put is because they're keeping the status quo. Nothing too drastic happened at the non-tender deadline because nothing too drastic is going to happen for the entirety of this offseason.
Speaking of drastic, there are rumors the Texas Rangers have inquired about Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, and Tyler Mahle for a possible trade. Don't fret, it's only an inquiry, which always seems to befuddle some fans. Chances are still good the Cincinnati Reds hold on to their top pitchers as they lost one f their top bullpen arms from a year ago. Michael Lorenzen looks to leap from the bullpen to the starting rotation, for the Los Angeles Angels. He wasn't returning to the Reds to simply pitch out of the bullpen, though, so the loss is not much of a surprise.
And finally, MLB owners and players remain far apart in their negotiations to renew the collective bargaining agreement that is set to expire at 11:59 PM eastern on December 1st. With that brings the high likelihood of a lockout. The players will fight hard in this negotiation due to their most recent acquiescence to multiple big ticket items for the owners. They've hired Bruce Meyer to do just that. This lockout could last to February, though I doubt either side wants to push back the season.

The Locked On Reds podcast is the only daily podcast for Reds Country to get its fix from Great American Ballpark. Hosts Jeff Carr and Steven Offenbaker bring you a daily look at the Reds and their quest to climb out of the cellar of the National League and the NL Central with a roster full of unproven young talent. How are the Reds building for the future? How is Joey Votto building his Hall of Fame case? Is Hunter Greene the next Reds ace? Jeff and Steve answer these questions, and more, as they talk about wins and losses, trades and signings, hirings and firings, and baseball the Cincinnati way.
