Description
Jonathan India won the NL Rookie of the Year Award after largely being an afterthought this spring training. Jeff is joined by Bobby Nightengale to talk about the dominance of the Cincinnati Reds second baseman and what he means to the team, moving forward. They also talk about Joey Votto and what we can expect from him next year, whether the Reds will be rebuilding this offseason, and which fringe players could make an impact on the next season.
When Jonathan India was announced the starter at second base on Opening Day, it was a surprise. When he was announced the NL Rookie of the Year it was no surprise. The rookie star for the Cincinnati Reds took the league by storm and is the most important player for the Reds to build around, as the seasons move on and Joey Votto comes to the end of his tenure in Cincinnati.
The messaging from Nick Krall about this current offseason, though, is of cost-cutting and taking a step back, which seems to lend a thought to a rebuild. How likely are the Reds to trade Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray and could they actually turn it into a positive by bringing up Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo?
When we get to the next season, guys like Max Schrock, TJ Friedl, Reiver Sanmartin, Dauri Moreta, even Aristides Aquino, will be on the fringes. Which of these guys will the Reds be trusting, if any? Or are there other players within the Farm System that could be brought up?
