Tom Atzet, Ph.D. (Merlin, OR), regional ecologist (retired) with the U.S. Forest Service, discusses ecosystem health particularly as it pertains to forest ecosystems. A stable ecosystem without disturbances is not a healthy system. Ecosystems require a stress and disturbances in order to maintain long-term help. It is especially important to humans since forests and ecosystems in general must be healthy to sustain our human population.
