AMA: Should I be best friends with an unbeliever?
1. Is there room for politics in the church?
1 Corinthians 5:9-13 I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don’t you judge those who are inside? God judges outsiders. Remove the evil person from among you.
Proverbs 22:24; 1 Corinthians 11:32; Colossians 2:20; James 4:4
2. How do I trust a boss or spouse that doesn’t follow Jesus?
Romans 13:5 Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath but also because of your conscience.
Matthew 11:28-30 ; Romans13:1-7; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
3. My husband isn’t a Christian, can I divorce him?
1 Peter 3:1-2 In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live when they observe your pure, reverent lives.
Deuteronomy 24:1-3; 1 Corinthians 7:15
4. If so, do I have the right to remarry?
1 Cor 7:15-16 But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace. Wife, for all you know, you might save your husband. Husband, for all you know, you might save your wife.
Matt 19:8-12; Romans 7:2-3
5. What if my spouse or friend isn’t at the same spiritual level with me?
2 Corinthians 1:24 I do not mean that we lord it over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because you stand firm in your faith.
Next Steps:
I need to settle my relationship with Jesus today.
I want to start a relationship with others this week.
I will not settle for shallow relationships in my group.
