Description

For the full write up on the CIE diagram, please read this blog post. For the purposes of this pot I’ll include this outline: https://brentbergherm.com/cie-chromaticity-diagram/ The Diagram The shape of it Color Models vs Color Space Color Values vs Perception Additive vs Subtractive Color Meanings of color: BLUE Robert Henri, an American painter probably summed it up best when he said, “Color is only beautiful when it means something.” For the most part, I agree. And it’s that understanding of what color can mean that drives me to do these episodes where we focus on color, and listener submitted images. Different colors can have many different meanings depending on context and culture. In China, for example, blue conveys a sense of immortality. Positive Associations for Blue The best (think county fairs with the blue ribbon being the best of the best), truth, conservatism (mostly in anything but US politics), loyalty, security and all things relating to the ocean or nautical themes. Negative Associations for Blue Sadness, cold, unexpected, low-class, depression, indecent and censored. Color in Motion This is a great animation that takes you through all the main colors and gives ideas for the meanings they can convey. https://vimeo.com/129112056 Listener Images and comments Alan Comer – Blue Angles pic Mark Morris – Some type of lily Mike Hoppe – Crown Point For the next showcase of listener images I want to do something a little different. I want to hear from you. Please think of a photo that fits the general genre of travel/outdoor photography and fits the idea of “For the Love of Photography” Submit that image to the fb group (or email it to me) and then use the voice memo feature on your phone (or any other way of recording your thoughts) and tell us the story behind your image. I’ll get at least three on the show, I’ll try and do more if I can. Try and keep it between 2 and 5 minutes. I think that would be awesome.
