Description
This week we sit down with filmmaker Perry Blackshear, the writer/director behind They Look Like People and The Siren. His latest film When I Consume You is currently out on VOD and continues his trend of making intimate horror movies about internal struggle. We discuss how he came to horror later in life, some of his favorites and films that pulled him into the genre as well as what he enjoys about the genre now that he watches it. Then we dig into When I Consume You, which is an emotionally devastating movie that blends supernatural horror with the story of a brother and sister trying to make it in a cruel world. Finally, we turn to Pinocchio, a film that is actually quite terrifying with its depictions of child trafficking and body horror. We dig into the almost propaganda-like nature of the story, the historical context of the film, the xenophobia and racist depictions as well as some of the incredibly haunting visuals and the absolutely *stunning* animation.
