Description

Josef Martinez gave Atlanta United an early lead, but missed opportunities and a late penalty allowed New England to walk away with a point in an infuriating 1-1 draw on Wednesday night in Foxborough.

Martinez gave the Five Stripes the lead with their first shot on target. A trickling Julian Gressel cross meandered past three Revolution players in the box and to the feet of Martinez who finished with ease.
The half ended with its lone clear chance as the difference.

Fortunately, plenty of clear chances were on the way from the Five Stripes.

Unfortunately, WE DIDN’T FINISH A GOT DANG ONE.

Atlanta dominated the half, creating chance after chance after chance on the break. After a hodgepodge of shots directly at the keeper and other missed opportunities, you began to wonder when the missed chances would allow New England back into the game.
Cool.

Atlanta United ended the night with seven shots on target and an expected goals total of about ten or so (probably) but couldn’t push past the Revolution.

“That’s just how the cookie crumbles sometimes,” Jeff Larentowicz said post game.

After dropping two extremely frustrating points, the Five Stripes now have to regroup to face a streaking Philadelphia Union team (no, seriously) this Saturday in Atlanta.

*sigh*

Walk this one off, y’all. Walk it off.
