Jimmie Johnson's Quiet Legacy: Throughout his amazing 20-year career, Jimmie Johnson set out to make his mark in NASCAR's Cup Series and did so by logging seven championships and 83-career victories. The El Cajun, CA. native tied Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt with seven titles each and hoped to become the lone driver to log eight Cup Series championships but came up short of his quest before his retirement in 2020. Since 2021, Johnson has turned his attention toward a career in Indy Cars. Now in his second season, Johnson hopes to score his first victory in the 17-race season. Another driver to wheel No. 48 to victory during the early 1970s was South Carolina native James Hylton, winner of two Cup Series races at Richmond, VA. and Talladega, Ala. NASCAR historians Ben White and Jerry Bonkowski also discuss Smoky Mountain Speedway in Marysville, TN. during podcast No. 48 of "A Lifetime in NASCAR" and how it was once a fixture on NASCAR's schedule from 1963 to 1971. by A Lifetime in Motorsports
