Today’s guest is Xhioqi, a young, talented creator from the Philippines. Her lead comic, The Onion Villainess, follows the story of a high schooler who one day wakes up as the tragic character from the novel she was reading, a villainous empress who was killed by her own kin.
We talk about her foray into comics, from initially using art as an escape, to disproving the notion that readers wouldn’t want to read an amateur’s work, to building a webcomic with over 100,000 subscribers while still in high school. We loved her hustle in learning the craft from watching YouTube, and making creative TikTok videos to market her comic. She also has a refreshing mindset that helps her avoid burnout while juggling multiple comic projects.
