Description

Episode summary In this episode on music education, music teacher RaeAnna Goss shares what Solfa is and how it can bring value to our homeschool journey. Guest biography RaeAnna is a second generation homeschooler living her dream just outside of Nashville, TN. As a homeschooler in the 1980s and 90s, there were opportunities to play many different instruments in her musical home (piano, guitar, clarinet, accordion). She took that love of practice and performance to Lee University where she started her career as a music educator. After teaching music in the public schools for 10 years, she began homeschooling her family using the Charlotte Mason method. RaeAnna has authored the book Composer Study Companion to bring active listening to music history lessons. She also created Solfa Sofa, a free YouTube series for teaching solfege singing, and shares homeschool thoughts on her Instagram and blog. When her family is not reading books, they are writing books! RaeAnna's two children created the world of The Traveler's League that was written by their dad, author Nick Goss. Follow their homeschool adventure on Instagram. Host biography Julie H. Ross believes that every child needs a feast of living ideas to grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. As a former school teacher, curriculum coordinator, and assistant director of a homeschool academy, Julie has worked with hundreds of students and parents over the past 20 years. She has also been homeschooling her own five children for over a decade. Julie developed the Charlotte Mason curriculum, A Gentle Feast, to provide parents with the tools and resources needed to provide a rich and abundant educational feast full of books, beauty, and Biblical truth. Julie lives in South Carolina. When she’s not busy homeschooling, reading children’s books, hiking, or writing curriculum, you can find her taking a nap.
