Sankofa! Happy New Year!: Happy New Year! We are starting 2020 with SANKOFA. Sankofa is a word from the Akan people of Ghana. It often translates to "go back and get it," though other translations are also popular. In general, Sankofa reflects the idea of learning from the past. "Remembering our past to protect our future" and "Go back to the past and bring forward what is useful" are two examples of this. The word is visually represented by two Adinkra symbols. One symbol is of a bird with its feet facing forward, its head turned back to retrieve an egg. The second symbol is of a styled heart. Sankofa! Happy New Year!: Happy New Year! We are starting 2020 with SANKOFA. Sankofa is a word from the Akan people of Ghana. It often translates to "go back and get it," though other translations are also popular. In general, Sankofa reflects the idea of learning from the past. "Remembering our past to protect our future" and "Go back to the past and bring forward what is useful" are two examples of this. The word is visually represented by two Adinkra symbols. One symbol is of a bird with its feet facing forward, its head turned back to retrieve an egg. The second symbol is of a styled heart.
