We often use the expression in research, medicine and science that we 'stand on the shoulders of  giants' which is to mean that all of what we know today was because of those bold doctors, scientists, that did the work that we now accept as true. What isn't often added is that those 'Giants', the pioneers were publicly ridiculed, and disagreed with for years before their work became appreciated.
