Chapter 4:  Buck, with Spitz no longer the leader, fights for and takes the place of the lead dog on the sled team. At Skagway, Perrault receives orders to hand the dog team to a mail carrier, who pushes the team hard and only gives them two days rest in Dawson. The dog named Dave begins to falter.
