Pre-Loved Podcast: Marvin Ruby Today’s show is with Arlena, founder of Marvin Ruby, a reworked vintage brand which creates one-of-a-kind pieces from vintage quilts. Arlena grew up in the Rust Belt and was raised with a hatred for throwing things away. At age 19, she picked up and moved to New York City. Her journey to working in the fashion industry took her for quite a ride, she worked at an upcycled fashion brand in Iceland and for large commercial brands in New York. Ultimately, she decided to move to Upstate New York, and start her own line of reworked designs.  In this episode, we discuss Arlena’s path to founding her own brand, her thoughts on the debate about reusing quilts in clothing, slow fashion, and so much more.  I’m so excited for you to hear this one, so let’s dive right into the show!  All the Episode Links: Marvin Ruby @shopmarvinruby The “Quilt Clothes Must Die” controversial video We talk more about the “quilt clothes must die” discourse on Patreon this week Atacama Desert in Chile  Pre-Loved Podcast with The OR Foundation Pre-Loved Podcast on secondhand in Accra, Ghana Phoenicia Flea Market Upstate Vintage Antique Show Lovefield Vintage Walk the West Vintage Proprietors in Hudson New York Raggedy Threads in NYC Stella Dallas in NYC Beacon’s Closet Kingston Consignments Upstate Capital Market Rebecca from Appalachian Blues Hilary Margaret Studio * JOIN THE PATREON COMMUNITY and get the Pre-Loved Podcast News Flash: https://www.patreon.com/prelovedpod  A special thanks goes out to my Patron Insiders: Patty Weber Beverley Docherty of Wolfe Pack Vintage Danny of Galaxy Live Kayla of Pins Thrift & Vintage Kathy Brand Lucero Buendia Steven Vogel **For more good stuff every week be sure you subscribe to Emily’s newsletter! Pre-Loved Podcast is a weekly interview show about rad vintage style with guests you’ll want to go thrifting with. Pre-Loved Podcast is hosted by Emily Stochl of the Brume & Daisy blog. I chat with guests about their love for vintage and second-hand clothing, how they source creative inspiration, and the stories behind their favorite pieces. We chat style, running a fashion business, sustainability, slow fashion and why we choose second-hand things first.
