First published in Tennyson's first solo collection, "Poems, Chiefly Lyrical" (1830) when he was around 20 years old. One of the few sonnets Tennyson penned and with this one specifically he grossly distorts the sonnet form to better fit the horrendous mythical sea creature he describes.
