Description

On Wednesday, I got to moderate a panel at my alma mater, Fordham University in support of HeForShe to discuss ways to address and end Gender Based Violence on campuses. Some of the things we addressed are: What Gender Based Violence is and why it existsHow to encourage bystanders and use their voices to participate in the narrativeHow to look inward and question ourselves on our behaviors that have perpetuated sexism and violenceHow to get better at defining the issues, collecting data and evidence to identify what works and what doesn't workThere's still a lot of progress to be made. According to the National Sexual Violence Research Center, 1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted in college as well as 1 in 16 men. That’s 23% of college women and 5 % of college men who experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence or incapacitation. 21% of transgender or gender non-conforming students report rape or sexual assault as well. Despite these staggering numbers, numerous studies have shown that Gender Based Violence, Assault and rape are still under reported! We dive into all these and much more. Our esteemed panelists were:Professional Storyteller, Podcaster and Women’s Issue Speaker, Adrien BehnVP of Marketing at Give Lively, Brooke Currence ANDActor, Performer, Educator, and Activist Ceasar F.
