On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average had the biggest one-day percentage drops since October of 1987 — and the Nasdaq joined the Dow in bear-market territory, which is commonly defined as a drop of at least 20% -- as fears of the coronavirus grow, coupled with oil wars and uncertainties around the 2020 Presidential election. Friday, March 13th, President Donald Trump declared a national emergency due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the US. Soon after, stocks started to rally in late trading.
