Description

Matt, Michael, and Michelle check in following Turkey day.  Michelle is prepping for the arrival baby speech science 2.0.  Michelle and her family have jumped into Christmas as early as possible.  Michael is moving back to online therapy and finding ways to engage families more effectively.  Matt moved online for a week and he looks forward to move back to face to face therapy.

On today’s show, we recognize the folks over at Cognixion for their new breakthrough in AAC.  The team breakdown the requirements and what to do when an evaluation team changes your goals on an IEP.  A listener writes in asking Michael about the link of meaningful interactions and brain growth.  This week’s Informed SLP looks at the importance of evaluating students in both languages if they are bi-lingual. The weekly news headlines return and the ASHA spotlight looks at their resources for screen time with children.

SSPOD Shoutout: Do you know an SLP who deserves a digital fist bump or shout out?  We want to know your #SSPODSHOUTOUT, which is recognition for someone doing something awesome somewhere.  Mai Ling Chan and Lucas Steuber as well as the rest of the team at Cognixion have found a way to use brain power to control AAC devices.
SSPOD Due Process: Your opportunity to message us about a problem in your area that you would like us to talk about, use the #SSPODDUEPROCESS.  What do you do when the school based team changes your IEP goals?

The Informed SLP: Most SLPs probably already had a sneaking suspicion that it is best to screen children who are dual language learners (DLLs) for language disorders in both languages. Now there are studies to support this.
ASHA Spotlight: How much tech time is too much tech time?
