Description

On this week’s episode the group has their struggles.  Michael is unable to join the group as he is stuck in traffic, Michelle’s computer is updating and joining the group via iPad, and Matt didn’t have water for the first 5 minutes of the show!  The group responds to a text message about a recent ABA episode.                              On today’s show, we discuss the impact of the ASHA Interstate Compact and should people with Dementia be allowed to vote.  Michelle had the opportunity to sit down with Sandy Dorsey of Smiles for Speech to talk about their virtual 5k to raise money.  The Discord is up and ready for people to interact with the crew 24/7 with a new website, www.discord.speechsciencepodcast.com.----more----SSPOD Shoutout: Do you know an SLP who deserves a digital fist bump or shout out?  We want to know your #SSPODSHOUTOUT, which is recognition for someone doing something awesome somewhere.  This week, the shoutout goes to the SLPs who are working on creating the ASHA Interstate Compact.  Topic #1:    The threshold for an Interstate Compact is 10.  ASHA is working hard to get to the minimum 10 states required.  What does this mean on your states rules?   What if you work in Ohio but live in Kentucky and your school goes digital, can you work from home in this situation?  Your state may say no.      Topic 2: Are people with dementia allowed to vote?  With almost 2.5% of the American population with dementia, what roles do we serve in educating families about voting?  The Advisory board states that anyone should be able to vote.   Smiles for Speech: Sandy Dorsey is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of Smiles for Speech. She is the owner of All About Speech, LLC, a private practice based in New York City that offers speech-language services to school aged children with speech and language disorders.  Sandy talks about the 5K virtual race and their goal to raise funds to provide resources for the most vulnerable children with special needs living in impoverished communities in rural areas of Kenya and Ghana.  ContactEmail: speechsciencepodcast@gmail.comVoicemail: (614) 681-1798Discord: https://discord.speechsciencepodcast.comMerchandise: http://tee.pub/lic/mkor4gkVf9E New Episode and Interact here:www.speechsciencepodcast.compodcast.speechsciencepodcast.com SupportPatreon – https://www.patreon.com/speechsciencepodcast Rate and Review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/speechscience-org-podcast/id1224862476?fbclid=IwAR3QRzd5K4J-eS2SUGBK1CyIUvoDrhu8Gr4SqskNkCDVUJyk5It3sa26k3Y&ign-mpt=uo%3D8&mt=2 CreditsIntro Music: Please Listen Carefully by Jahzzar is licensed under a Attribution-ShareAlike License.Bump Music: County Fair Rock, copyright of John Deku, at soundcloud.com/dirtdogmusicThe Informed SLP: At The Count by Broke For Free is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution LicenseClosing Music: Slow Burn by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License. Show Links Smiles for Speech: https://www.smilesforspeech.org/5k-virtual-race-for-inclusion Dementia and Votinghttps://www.advisory.com/daily-briefing/2020/10/26/dementia-votinghttps://www.eac.gov/voter_resources/resources_for_voters_with_disabilities.aspxhttps://www.eac.gov/election-officials/tips-empowering-voters-disabilities-2020-general-election-and-covid-19-crisishttps://www.ada.gov/votingck.htm ASHA Interstate Compacthttps://www.asha.org/Advocacy/state/Audiology-and-Speech-Language-Pathology-Interstate-Compact/ Halloween Song:https://www.asha.org/stuttering-toolkit/?fbclid=IwAR1X-FMZNQht7ChBaXo5E1HcDaHvL1R2qH63mk088D6JcyFwd1VXRhy4cJc Speech Science Powered by: You!
