Description
Sermon delivered on Sunday, September 16, 2012, during the Contemporary Worship Service at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
SERMON DESCRIPTION
In the course of a life, everyone faces at least a few really hard, sometimes heart-wrenching, and often life-changing decisions. When it is a clear, good-versus-bad proposition, it is not usually too difficult. But many big decisions involve competing definitions of good and priorities that make them complex, and sometimes troubling, no matter which decision is made.
We now have three services on Sunday in which to explore this subject from three distinct perspectives. At 8:30 a.m., at The Point, we will take a Humanist approach and explore how people may make such decisions without referencing scripture, God, or religion. At 10:00 a.m., in the Traditional Service, we will look to examples that inform us from the religions and cultures of the world, which may or may not include a Biblical perspective and will certainly be informed by the Humanist perspective. And at 11:30 a.m., in our Contemporary Service, we will have the benefit of these other perspectives to introduce, but we will be sure to highlight what the Bible can teach us about making really difficult decisions.
