1 - Teaching makes more travel possible
Sarah knew ever since she was a kid that she wanted to travel as an adult. So to make it possible, she went directly into a career that not allows you to travel, but also pays for your housing and even flight tickets: teaching. She says the most important is to have some experience, and then simply get in contact with a recruitment agency that'll help you find jobs overseas. And so she decided to go to China.
2 -The hard part of going freelance
During her time in China, Sarah was building a hefty emergency fund for her move to the US. She also had a newborn - which her and her husband had to plan carefully for. She was also working on her side hustle of freelance writing, eventually replacing her teacher salary. After moving to the US, she tells us that the hardest part was the isolation. She was adjusting to motherhood, to the US and working freelance online. Once she moved to a big city she says things got much better.
3 - The importance of setting boundaries
She learnt how to balance freelance work, family time and her own time by clearly setting boundaries. She's learnt to negotiate boundaries with her family and re-assessed her priorities so she knew which clients to keep and which took too much of her time. By making sure she's organising her time efficiently and doing what is most important, she's found a way to be balanced. The results: her freelance income has doubled!
