Robert Tyminski, DMH is a clinical professor and Jungian analyst in private practice in San Francisco, California.He first earned a master’s degree in health & medical sciences from the University of California, Berkeley and then went on to receive a doctorate in psychology and mental health from the University of California, San Francisco.From 1987 to 2001, he served as executive director of San Francisco’s Oakes Children’s Center, a therapeutic day school for children and adolescents with emotional and autism spectrum disorders. During that time, he obtained a second master’s degree, in business administration, from UC Berkeley.Dr. Tyminski completed his analytic training at the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco, where he later went on to serve as president - from 2014-2016 - and now teaches in their analyst training program. He is also currently a clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Francisco. He is a review editor for the Journal of Analytical Psychology, and is the 2015 recipient of their Michael Fordham Prize for his article, “Lost in (cyber)space: finding two adolescent boys hiding from their own humanity.” Later this year, he will be delivering the talk, “Apocalyptic themes in times of trouble: When young men are deeply alienated,” at the XXI Congress of the International Association for Analytical Psychology in Vienna.His first book, The Psychology of Theft & Loss: Stolen & Fleeced, was published by Routledge in 2014. And his latest book, Male Alienation at the Crossroads of Identity, Culture & Cyberspace, was published by Routledge in December, and it is the subject of our talk today.This interview was recorded on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
