Preface
We are what we eat, as the old saying goes. The book ‘The Medicinal Health Foods - Simply Eating Naturally to Prevent Diseases’ by Sophia Choi, however, is a refreshing emendation to the old-age dictum, and rightly so. It has something to do with the fact that the writer of the book has gone further to practically substantiate the maxim mentioned above through her personal experience, dotted with continuous pain, endless suffering, and then a sudden realization or flash of insight that helped her embark on the path of self-contemplation, healing and getting rid of a slew of diseases and ailments by exploiting the latent power of medicinal foods. It is more than a self-help tutorial about healthy eating habits or a book of tried-and-tested recipes and food remedies centered on what to eat and what not to eat. The book ‘The Medicinal Health Foods - Simply Eating Naturally to Prevent Diseases’ by Sophia Choi is, in fact, a detailed account of a breast cancer survivor who was pitted against the fatal disease, along with excruciating body pain, Type 2 diabetics, high blood pressure, and a whole lot of enduring diseases and crippling physical disorders that may otherwise herald the end of one’s life in the fullness of time.

Why Am I Writing This Book?
A few years back, when I was deeply lost in my thoughts over the purpose of my life while lying in my bed, coping with the aftermath of a severe physical injury, I reached an epiphany all of a sudden. Before that incident, I, like most people, always took my health for granted and never paid attention to my unhealthy eating habits and unwholesome daily routine. For me, the absence of any disease was synonymous with being in good health, and I mistakenly regarded my spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical wellness as being aligned together in absolute harmony.
Isn’t that what we all do to prove that our lifestyle is a healthy one?
We excuse ourselves from physiology conversations and evade talking and ruminating over the importance of a good diet and daily exercise because we don’t want to feel uncomfortable. Taking care of ourselves feels like a burden until we reach the point where finding a permanent cure to fix our health concerns becomes a more viable option.
My carelessness caught up to me, and one day, I found myself struggling in the thick of a health predicament thanks to the terrible physical injury I sustained out of the blue. Despite not doing the most for my physical fitness, I presumed I treated it better than most people, and still, my bare minimum wasn’t enough. Doctors used to hover around me with their diagnosis sheets and medical equipment to fix me, but months passed by, and there was a slight improvement in my health. During those days, even recalling the times when I used to give in to my cravings and indulge in sugary bliss pained me.
Desperation crawled in the sinews of my body as I found
