31 Decrees of Blessing for Your Work Life - Os Hillman
INTRODUCTION
The Bible is a book of history, stories, and promises. It is an amazing collection of sixty-six books written over a period of fifteen hundred years by forty different authors. Someone counted the number of promises in the Bible and found around seventy-five hundred of them.
A covenant promise is a promise from God that we are to believe and pray into existence. Those promises can be for healing, prosperity, protection, security, peace, wisdom, and more. When Jesus prayed the Lord’s Prayer that heaven would come on earth as it is in heaven,
that meant we were to pray and manifest his promises on the earth.
I’ve provided thirty-one categories of covenant promises for you to decree and claim for your work and life in this book. We will examine the various circumstances in Scripture and real-life stories of application of these verses to your daily work life. I’ll share stories of those who are living out the Scripture.
When Jesus told his disciples that he was going to be leaving them, he said he was going to give them the keys of the kingdom to loose on earth and loose in heaven and bind on earth and bind in heaven. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven
(Matthew 16:19 NKJV).
Many examples in Scripture show people using their authority to decree a matter. They spoke things to be done and experienced the supernatural physical manifestation. Joshua spoke to the walls of Jericho to fall down, and they did. Jesus spoke to Lazarus to come forth, and he did. Jesus said to Peter to walk on the water, and he did.
All of these are examples of the Word being decreed over a matter. When God told Moses to speak to the rock
instead of striking the rock, it represented a change in paradigm for Moses. God was calling Moses to operate at a new dimension he’d never experienced before.
Moving in a new dimension with God means moving in a greater dimension of faith. Sometimes faith is spelled risk. Peter risked drowning when Jesus invited him to walk on the water. The priests risked losing the ark of the covenant when crossing the Jordan River at flood stage. Joshua risked looking foolish by walking around the city of Jericho and blowing a trumpet to take a city in battle. There are many examples of faith requiring risk.
Most of us spend 70 percent of our waking hours at work. But few of us understand how to use the Word of God to help us succeed in our working life. We need help in knowing how to manifest God’s presence in our work life. Moses said, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here" (Exodus 33:15 NKJV).
It’s important to note that when we say we are to decree a thing, it does not mean that God is a genie who responds to every word we might decree. It must be combined with faith and the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The church has been guilty of a name-it-claim-it heresy in the past that is not biblical. What we are talking about here is following what the Bible teaches about manifesting the Word of God in our everyday life and being led by the Holy Spirit. The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit
(Romans 8:14 TPT).
May this book allow you to enter a new dimension of faith as you decree the Word of God over your work, family, and everyday life.
I speak the glory of God over my work.
DAY ONE
SPEAK THE GLORY OF GOD
Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others.
COLOSSIANS 3:23 TPT
Stanley Tam might not be a household name, but his story epitomizes what we need to understand about our work life call—we are called to glorify and worship God through our work life.
Stanley Tam founded US Plastic Corporation in 1956. His company manufactures and supplies commercial and industrial plastic products to customers across the country. In 1955, he made an extraordinary decision. Following an urging he felt in prayer, he turned his entire business over to the Lord by forming a foundation to take 100 percent ownership of the company. The foundation distributes the profits from US Plastic Corporation to support communities and build churches across the world.
This desire to work for the Lord did not come out of nowhere. For years before the founding of USPC, this prayerful man felt the call to save souls for the Lord. It didn’t make sense to those around him, and even Stanley wondered why God would send a businessman into the world to evangelize. However, in 1952, he went with an evangelist on a missionary trip in Korea. When an emergency forced the evangelist to return home, Stanley found himself standing in front of a crowd giving his testimony through an interpreter. As terrifying as the moment was for Dr. Tam, he later saw it as "one of the greatest experiences of my
